Who is your school for?

Our school is for any student in 5th through 8th grade who wants a small school setting that allows them to move at their own pace. We have had students who attend the Coop because they needed more challenge and previously felt bored in school. On the other hand, we have had students who were struggling academically and feeling left behind at their previous schools. We have had students who did not enjoy the social aspects of middle school and needed some support navigating that realm. We have had students who wanted more of a chance to explore and express themselves creatively. And we have had students who wanted a break from the pressure and size of a public middle school. The Coop is for all kinds of students!

What makes your school different?

The small size allows the teachers to know the students very well. We can tailor our instruction to their individual needs, allowing them to progress more consistently. Our school is about the freedom to still be a child and play, imagine, and explore. At the same time, we allow our students to have the freedom of being responsible and making their own decisions and treating them with respect.

Will my child be prepared for high school?

Yes! In fact, many of our students do even better in high school than their peers because they have had practice managing their own schedules and assignments, advocating for themselves, and learning what strategies work best for them as a learner. As one former Coop parent with a child in high school put it, “I could not be happier with how prepared my child is to navigate the many challenges of high school. She is feeling confident and successful this year, and I thank the Coop teachers for that!”

What towns do your students come from?

We have had students from Richmond, Jericho, Underhill, Hinesburg, Huntington, Bolton, Essex, Williston, Cambridge, and Middlesex. Students from any towns are welcome!
